A lot of people have been asking for skincare tips and my routine, so I recently uploaded a sort of tutorial on my Instagram Stories. I’m 32, with oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin, so my current routine tries to address those. I can give you a rundown of the basic routine, but feel free to change to products that suit your own skin type. After all, what works for me might not necessarily work for you.

Double Cleanse

Because facial wash alone won’t remove all traces of makeup, you always have to remember to double cleanse. Most days, I wear only a bit of makeup (usually just eyebrow product and some lip balm), but because my skin breaks out easily, I still need to make sure I remove all of it from my face. An oil cleanser removes even waterproof stuff like mascara and eyeliner (oil removes oil; water-based products will not do that).

Currently I use Boscia Charcoal Makeup Melter Cleansing Oil-Balm along with Fourth Ray Beauty Cleansing Cloths (discontinued) to get rid of makeup, and then follow with Pond’s Age Miracle Cell ReGEN Facial Foam to wash my face.

Tone

I’ve only been using toner for about a year and honestly, I thought I didn’t need it. I always confused it with astringent, which hurt my skin, but I realized the right product really helps.

I currently use Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion. I discovered this because I was looking for something specific at Sephora, and the sales assistant recommended a sampler of the Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience line instead. My complaint at the time was sensitivity and redness, and I’m so glad I got this. It’s really calmed my skin and I would definitely repurchase.

Moisturize

If you’re gonna get just one product for your skincare, please make it moisturizer. No matter what your skin type, you should always, always moisturize. Yes, even people with oily skin like myself – trust me, I know how hard it is to find a moisturizer that will not make skin break out.

I’m currently using Innisfree Jeju Orchid Gel Cream, which is not only perfect for my skin type – the orchids from Jeju Island in Korea are supposedly anti-aging as well. The antioxidant they call “Orchidelixir” helps fight visible signs of aging, and also helps brighten skin and tighten pores.

Serum + Oil

Ideally, serum goes before moisturizer while face oil goes on after moisturizer. However, since I’m using a bi-phase product, the Fourth Ray Beauty Raydiate Vitamin C Elixir, I apply it after. It’s a 15% vitamin C blend that helps even skin tone, along with hyaluronic acid (helps with hydration), camu camu (rich in vitamin C), and turmeric (gives antioxidant benefits).

Plus, other than the fact it’s got a pretty package, this bi-phase elixir is a 2-in-1 product that cuts a bit of time off my routine.

Pimple Treatment

For someone who has been battling acne literally since I was a kid, believe me when I say I’ve tried everything. There are a few pimple treatments out there that actually do what they promise without damaging my skin and leaving nasty marks.

I’ve tried a similar product to Fourth Ray Beauty Later Hater Spot Treatment before, but I can no longer find it, so imagine my excitement when I discovered there’s still products out there of this type! This overnight treatment is a two-phase solution that contains salicylic acid (fights pimples), sulfur (conditions skin), and calamine (calms skin and absorbs excess sebum).

Face Mist

Normally, face mists should be used before moisturizer, but this mist I’m using in particular is more of a refreshing mist for me than a skincare prep. The Fourth Ray Beauty Glisten Up Mist is a vitamin C-infused product with hyaluronic acid, camu camu, and white tea. The shimmer also helps with that all over glow, which is also why I also use it as a makeup setting spray, alternative to my ColourPop Matte + Blur Face Setting Spray.
