Cosplays & Bounding
Let me tell you a quick little story of how I got into costumes: it all boils down to unrealized frustration from childhood. Growing up in the Philippines in the 80s and 90s, Halloween wasn’t a thing. Now it is, but back then wearing costumes beyond your toddler stage is practically unheard of. I always wanted to dress up, but we weren’t well off and it was pretty weird. Fast forward to my 20s and 30s when it started becoming more popular. Because I had no costume-making experience, my Halloweens were spent sadly gazing in awe at my friends’ or coworkers’ creative costumes. I felt I wasn’t creative or crafty enough to pull off the looks they were doing.
Then, I started becoming more confident about it and discovered I could definitely do cosplays and bounding. The latter is especially cool because it means I can create a tribute that doesn’t have to be exact, by just using whatever stuff I already had in my closet. It was also a challenge to sometimes do gender-bent versions of characters, which I found exciting. And so, my cosplay and bounding adventure has begun.
