Using Expired Hair Dye

I recently reverted to my 2000s self and used Manic Panic Amplified in Vampire Red a.k.a. Old Reliable™

I call it that because this dye never fails me! My base was a faded mess of white, purple, green, beige…basically when my “galaxy hair” faded I didn’t bleach it anymore. I think the shades of Aquamarine and Violet Dream (both from Arctic Fox) had the dreaded color lock, plus my hair is still recovering from damage, so it’s the main reason I didn’t bleach or use a color remover. I didn’t touch my reroots either.

I know Vampire Red is super pigmented but it covered even the green parts of my hair super well (I was expecting it to become brown because they’re opposite colors). The result is a sort of ombre from my dark roots gradually becoming a brighter red.

As mentioned in the title, the main color is a bottle of dye beyond its expiration date. Disclaimer, I do not recommend doing this, there’s still always the possibility of adverse allergic reactions. However, in my case all I noticed was the consistency was more runny, and you’ll need to always mix it as you’re applying because pigments kept separating. Other than that I didn’t get any skin irritation or other reactions. I also mixed in a little bit of my leftover mix of reds/pinks/diluters from a previous dye job, and a tiny splash of Arctic Fox in Wrath, so the result is no longer super dark – there’s touch of bright pink under certain lighting.
