Aqua & Orange “Tide Pod” Split Dye
I wanted to experiment with hair colors and had never done the trendy “split dye” style before. Was feeling adventurous so I thought, why not two colors opposite from each other on the color wheel? Yellow and purple is pretty common, and green and pink was also quite common from what I have seen. The only other option is blue and orange, so I looked for inspiration. I know YouTuber Sophie Hannah did something similar once, but the main inspiration for me really was this photo:
The front pieces were lighter than the rest of her hair, which to me was really pretty even though I wasn’t exactly sure how to pull it off. I’ve never diluted or customized dyes before this. At this point, I’ve never tried either Arctic Fox nor Good Dye Young, so that was also an exciting new experience. Of note, I was also too cheap to actually buy real pastelizers from both brands, so I mixed dyes with conditioner to get the pastel version.
Because it wasn’t a common color combination, friends and members of my hair dye group started comparing it to a bunch of things, most notably the original Tide Pod. Thus, I nicknamed this look after it.
