Micellar water is a cult skincare product many beauty enthusiasts swear by. I may be late to the hype train, but I’m definitely a convert! But if you’ve never heard of micelles before, here’s the low down on what they do.
Micellar water and cleansers are made with purified water, moisturizers (such as glycerin), and mild surfactants (compounds that lower the surface tension, but basically these help cleanse the skin). The molecules of these surfactants join to form micelles, which in a microscopic level are a spherical chemical structure which helps pull dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin! Minus all the nerdy mumbo jumbo, this just means micellar cleansers are a gentle yet effective way of removing makeup, pollution, and all other gunk from the face.
Cue in Eskinol Naturals’s line of micellar products: the Clear Micellar Facial Wash which is a light gel cleanser, and the Clear All-In-One Micellar Water which is their own brand of liquid cleanser you can apply with a cotton pad. I got the lemon “Clear” variant for both which are formulated for oily skin, but they also have the rose “Glow” variant for dull skin, and the aloe “Hydrate” variant for dry skin. Most recently they also launched the cica extract “Pimple Relief” variant for acne-prone skin.

The scent was surprisingly mild, and washing with it made my face feel so refreshed especially in this hot yet humid tropical climate. While I had never used any micellar product before, I now understand the hype. Honestly, I initially felt skeptical because my oily skin is very sensitive and acne-prone, but this product works well for my skin type. There are parts of my skin that felt slightly dry, but nothing a good moisturizer can’t counter. I’ll definitely have this in stock!

I had always used oil-based makeup removers, but now I think I might switch because my makeup is removed with just a few swipes. It works on my eyes and lips too, which is so important. I don’t need to buy separate makeup removers now. The scent is mild, which works great for me because I usually get migraines and sometimes retch when a smell is too strong. I’m glad I got this product and will definitely buy one again.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
Between the two, I’d buy the micellar water more, because of the aforementioned slight dryness I experienced from the facial wash. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a good thing when products strip your face of moisture even if you have oily skin. It will cause your skin to react by producing more oil, as opposed to a hydrating product that initially feels counterproductive. When using the correct products that hydrate your skin enough, your skin will in turn produce less oil. I am a testament to this, as my skin is now far less oily than it used to be after proper skincare.
Between us, I sometimes use the micellar water to cleanse in the morning when I’m not awake enough yet to wash my face but need to move about for chores and errands. #lifehack :p But really, it doesn’t just get rid of makeup – it helps clear my skin of leftover skincare products and sweat from sleeping. I especially love using the micellar water as one of the fastest ways to remove makeup before cleansing or taking a shower. And lastly, it’s also a great way to spot-correct makeup mistakes! Just dip a pointed cotton swab into the liquid, and use it as an eraser for your makeup booboos (such as uneven winged eyeliner or smudged mascara).
